About us

Union of Genius is Scotland's first soup café. We opened at the end of October 2011 to rave reviews (check out the sidebar.) Each day, we serve up to 6 different home-made soups, flavour-matched with locally-baked artisan breads. We cook with fresh, locally-grown produce and our menu changes daily and seasonally. We always have vegetarian and vegan soups, and also sell vegan and gluten-free cakes.

We are primarily a take-away. We'll provide you with a lunch bag, compostable container and cutlery and bread to go with your soup. To encourage you to recycle, we have a loyalty card that gives you points for reducing, reusing or recycling your packaging. To learn more about Full Circle please check out our website.
We do have a small number of sit-in places but they tend to be in great demand.

For each day's changing menu of soups and salads visit us on Facebook or follow our Tweets. We're currently open 8am - 3pm, Monday - Friday. Breakfast features our own blend of porridge (with gorgeous toppings), and is served 8am - 11 am. Our six lunchtime soups are served from 11am until 3pm, but one soup is always available from 8am onwards.

You can find us at 8 Forrest Road in the heart of Edinburgh's old town. if you work at the national museum of Scotland, national library or Edinburgh University, you'll find us right around your corner. Great soup is closer than you think.
